Manga Booster 01 (SB01) and Manga Booster 02 (SB02) are Dragon Ball Super Card Game Fusion World sets made for Dragon Ball's 40th anniversary. Every card is foil and uses Akira Toriyama's own manga art. The ★ marks give the rarity: one star is an alt-art, two stars an Ultra or Super Alt-Art. The record is $47,580 for a BGS Black Label gold Energy Marker, E-42.

Toriyama's art, made into cards
For Dragon Ball's 40th anniversary, Bandai made two special sets for its Fusion World card game. Every card is foil and every image is Akira Toriyama's own work: manga panels, magazine covers and colour illustrations from the original series.[1][2] Manga Booster 01 came out in June 2025, with the English release a day before the Japanese one, and Manga Booster 02 followed in November.[1][2]
| Set | Release (English / Japan) | What's in it | Packs |
|---|---|---|---|
| SB01 | 27 Jun 2025 / 28 Jun 2025 | 110 card types plus 21 Energy Markers. The first booster with Energy Markers. | Japan: ¥330 for 6 cards and a digital code, 20 packs a box [1][4] |
| SB02 | 14 Nov 2025 / 8 Nov 2025 | 132 card types including 21 Energy Markers, and 47 parallels | English: 12 cards and a code, $5.99 suggested price [2][3] |
What the ★ marks mean
The rarity is printed as a code with stars. More stars means a rarer version of the same card:
| Mark | Bandai's English name | Japanese name | What it is |
|---|---|---|---|
| ★ | Alt-Art | パラレル | The standard parallel |
| R★★ / SR★★ | Ultra Alt-Art | ウルトラパラレル | A rarity found only in the Manga Boosters |
| SCR★★ | Super Alt-Art | スーパーパラレル | The Secret Rare tier, the top chase. Roughly one per 240 boxes (20 cases). |
| Gold Energy Marker | Gold Energy Marker | エナジーマーカー★ | A gold version of an Energy Marker. Not playable, but the most valuable cards in the sets. |
Pull rates are estimates from Japanese guide sites based on box openings, not from Bandai.[5][7] The same guides put each gold Energy Marker, Leader parallel and SCR parallel at roughly one per 12-box case.
Where each chase card's artwork came from
This is what makes the sets collectable beyond the game: each chase card reprints a specific piece of Toriyama's art you can trace back to a book, a cover or a chapter.
| Card | Rarity | Where the art comes from |
|---|---|---|
| SB01-023 Son Goku | R★★ Ultra Alt-Art | The 1990 artbook Akira Toriyama The World |
| FB05-119 Super Saiyan Son Goku | SCR★★ Super Alt-Art | A poster and a Weekly Shonen Jump cover from the original serialisation |
| E-42 Son Goku: Childhood, Gold | Gold Energy Marker | The cover of tankōbon Volume 1. E-43, E-44 and E-60 use the covers of Volumes 2, 3 and 30. |
| FB01-140 Son Gohan: Childhood | SCR★★ Super Alt-Art | A V Jump cover |
| SB02-043 Piccolo | SR★★ Ultra Alt-Art | Art from two chapters that ran in the same Jump issue |
| E-90 Gold | Gold Energy Marker | The cover of tankōbon Volume 42 |
Art sources from Japanese guides to the sets.[5][6][7]
The gold Energy Markers carry tankōbon covers, and E-42, the Volume 1 cover, is the most valuable card in either set, even though Energy Markers can't be played.
